A Flash of Inspiration

Every now and again, you turn inwards, and see that mind can be free from its usual patterns, of its cravings and selfing and delusions, delusions like separation, fixity and permanence.

When it happens, it is like becoming aware of a great sun, and you feel as though you know that this is how mind can be, this is your potential. There is the sense that no object is to be found or craved, no subject to find or do the craving, and that this beautiful light is the light in and of all beings, in and of all life.

Never again would there be the sense that I can be seen as separate to you, or to other, or to all. It can be less like seeing a sun and more like becoming sunshine, boundless, edgeless, free, and bright.

Experience surrounded by echoes of bliss and beauty and excitement, and the deepest peace. You wonder if you will ever be the same again, and of course, knowing you are not fixed, you know you won’t!

Beyond any kind of thought or feeling, perception dies away, and you know that if you could just stay in touch with this dimension of being then all craving and suffering would simply fall away.

You also know that if you could show others how to find it, suffering would cease in them too, and perhaps you might just hope that with the dawning of this light, any conflict or harm, any greed or pollution or power becomes obsolete, not sought, its true nature seen and understood.

How can you fight or use another if you know you are not separate, and understand that like you, they seek happiness and an end to suffering. How can you possibly destroy the environment which holds this field of life, how can you possibly not act for the benefit of all life?

Ratnasambhava – The Golden Buddha of the South

To understand the significance of the Buddhas, it may be worth reading the introduction to the mandala of the five Buddhas, which explains a little more about what they really are and how they evolved in the archetypal Vajrayana Buddhist imagination. Effectively how real they are, and in what way they are real, is left to you. They are not like Gods, they represent aspects of the enlightened mind, and as such, are both real and unreal, both archetype and other power.

Ratnasambhava is the gorgeous bright Buddha of the southern realm, made of golden light, made of the summer, of generosity and abundance, giving and equanimity. He is the sunshine at its bright zenith, the reworking of the mind and heart to include all life in one’s outlook rather than the limited one self. Wonder and Awe

From the infinitely vast to the emptiness in the atom and the subatomic dance, from dimensions unknown to the stretching of time, I find awe. Our survival demands evolution, which demands transformation, which demands practice. The principle of practice is simple, we take regular steps, and we take care of every moment and every being as best we can.

For this to happen, we need to stay inspired,  so that what is highest in you is in contact with what is highest in the universe. What for you causes that resonance, that shimmering and sparkling in the heights of your being? What is it that connects you to awe and wonder? How do you stay connected and stay inspired, how do you keep it alive in your practice?

The Buddha’s Activity is as Sunlight Dancing on the Waters of Time

If you had been out walking one night, two and a half millennia across time, you might have seen, framed against the moonlight shining on the river, a meditating figure. There would have been something deeply compelling about this sight, about the enigmatic smile and peaceful countenance.

Had you been out again the next morning, the same sight would have greeted you, except this time he would be framed by golden light of the sparkling sunshine, dancing on the surface of the gently flowing stream.

What you would not know, what you could not know, is that in the sparkling stream of consciousness connecting the two sights, the most profound event for life in this aeon had arisen. A Buddha had come to be.

Happiness Lies in the Appreciation of Beauty

To love beauty is to see light.

It doesn’t matter what mental state you find yourself in, they change all the time, but I guarantee that if you are able to get out into nature, it will improve. Even if you simply start to take stock of the positive, if you start to see what is around you with gratitude and through the eyes of appreciation, if you can practise seeing the beauty, then uplift will follow .

To simply go for a walk, to see the world, especially nature, cannot help but lift low spirits and confused minds. Looking outward, dropping commentary, dropping into the body. To walk amidst the change of the weathers and the seasons, and see that each is unique and beautiful, this is the path of happiness.

Sky

When you watch a sky, every moment of cloudscape is impermanent, empty of any substance, like an illusionary dance. In that dance is  absolute singularity, every sunset a unique and beautiful emanation which will slowly flow into night.

Experience is like this, awareness of any moment in any place is totally unique. Never before has a being who is conditioned by the life you are, sat and read these words conditioned by another unique life.

In its utter uniqueness it is all both empty and heartburstingly beautiful. This sky, that smile.

Knowledge of its passing  lends beauty even more feeling, like the longing gaze at eternity from the point of view of a passing moment.

The tiny must yearn for the great, the separate for the whole, the one for union.

Experiences of full appreciation, often during or after meditation, in skygazing or in love, connect us to field, to oneness, to sunshine. Rushes of delight raise our body to sky, and like sunshine our union pervades everything we see or think of. As sunshine pervades the world, so ours does.

There is a reason why they reflect on insight after meditation. Light, open and expansive, there is natural appreciation and insight, there is raised consciousness. Gratitude and joy spontaneously arise.

So as the dancing sky of your experience, be it anywhere, flows and whirls and delights, make sure to notice. Have a look, and know who you are, the most full experience of the universe knowing itself.

Pure consciousness devoid of taint, watching the universe playing one of its beautiful solos and all there is is harmony.

Water and Consciousness – Perpetual Motion

There is something about water, it is directly linked to spirituality for me. I learned to meditate in a shower, and love to read dharma in the bath by candlelight. Water is so tactile, it is easy to become aware of your energy body when suspended in water. Continue reading Water and Consciousness – Perpetual Motion
