I’m becoming fascinated with dreamwork again, and am appreciating what they can teach us, both in a single dream and in the course of their evolution over time. This is but an introduction to how to work with your dreams, and I look forward to writing more as I learn more about this fascinating topic and practice. I would really welcome any discussion or insights into this work, or any suggestions for further reading or how to more effectively understand the life of dreams. Change often manifests as crisis, we lose a life we have constructed, we are stripped of who we were, the person who has this or that job, this or that relationship, and lives in this or that place. There is a golden opportunity and a power available to us during times of transition or crisis, to open to the great mystery and find new meaning and new possibilities.
I write this, and decide to break a long silence. I had a copyright claim against me, and a divorce to cope with, so despite writing at length of pain, and of ways to cope with pain, I have felt unable to publish this yet. I have written much for people in recovery which I will post soon, and have more recently been exploring shamanism and druidry, and a living connection with nature which is inspiring me beautifully.
I don’t see this as separate or different from buddhism, the buddha having lived in connection with the natural world and its spirits and beings. I started to write about the way in which nature can sometimes seem to communicate with us, teach us, connect us with our wild nature, but this article evolved into something else.
It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year, now we are past the frenetic Christmas rush. Many people are off work this week and have some time to pause, take stock, and plot a new course.
Like a ship in port, sometimes we need to look at what cargo we are carrying, and work out what we would like to add to our inventory. We may need to make physical repairs, cosmetic improvements, or perhaps there is inner work to be done. Perhaps the engine needs greasing, or the mind needs cleaning, maybe motivation needs stoking and maps pored over, to plot new and exciting journeys. These corporations who seem so powerful are not mythic monsters, they are merely conditioned arisings. Phenomena that come to be and must by their birth and growth decay and die.
All things are like this, they are impermanent, they lack any solidity. If one by one we stop believing that getting things is the key to happiness. If we stop buying from them, then corporations will turn to dust before our eyes.
Even if they have governments and nations in their pockets, even if they own the police and the armies, their reign is but a flash of lightning in the night sky. Storms pass and dawns come.
They are not evil, they simply exist due to greed and cause further greed. Once our vision is wider than little greed, the conditions that create them will simply no longer be there.
In Buddhism greed, hatred and delusion are the demons. Only by wisdom and compassion can these demons be turned. Their time has passed. Now is the time for liberation. Now is the time to remember what is beautiful.
Even greed is conditioned, even hate, even selfishness, even foolishness. They too, can be turned to ash by the fires of transformation. One day this time of war and greed and destruction will be but a memory used to teach and inspire children, so that it may never return.
So embrace change, for change is what will cause a better world. Your change.
Everything that lives is holy
It would not be a completely unreasonable assertion to say that people today are the fruit of the endless and beginningless conditions of evolution. Although many are open or even fully believe in more advanced species occurring elsewhere in the cosmos, we are at least the most advanced species most of us have actually seen.
If we are an advanced species, then it is clear that we are not advanced enough. If we were, we would immediately cease all acts of hatred, greed, and selfishness, and behave as though we respect our habitat. We are behaving like angry children, creating mess and throwing tantrums around the world. It is very simple, if we don’t make a serious effort to grow up then the choice will be removed. There will be no habitat.
Fortunately, change is inevitable, and we are able to change and grow for the good. We can simply decide to evolve. Continue reading Shall We Evolve?
Change is coming. If you become still and listen, it is whispering. Resonating with life, overwhelming beauty. Set the intention to listen, to be guided by music which may be barely audible, but may be driving your dance in this world. Continue reading Hearing The Song of Awakening
The wrathful buddha, or bodhisattva, is a powerful image, and a powerful mythic force summoned to overcome the forces of samsara. A fearless ally to help you overcome your greed or your selfishness, to burn and tear at your shadow, to bring light into the darkness.
Any journey into the light begins with facing the shadow, it is the foundation for any path. Without facing the demons, they jostle and rage, ready to act out with violence or ill-will at any opportunity. So it is collectively as well, our shadow is running riot, so it must be faced and illuminated, as difficult and painful as it is.
What is it you wish you did that you don’t?
What do you put off for whatever reason?
You can’t live in the future, and you can’t have your rewards in the future either. Why wait until x is right or y is done, or z conditions are in place? There is never a perfect time or place, there is only here and now. If we wish to achieve anything, we can only ever progress here and now. Continue reading Procrastination
