Guided Metta Meditation – Limitless Blessings

Padmasambhava said of this practice that it was a very powerful kind of magic, and I believe him. I remember many years ago sitting on a bus and suddenly becoming aware of the fact that I had been  simply radiating loving kindness to all the other passengers. After a short period of practice  my psyche was transformed, such a shift from the usual self-centred mind drivel.

It works on so many levels, on the level of self love, on the level of not discriminating, on the level of growing your love, your friendliness, and your empathy. It works to build community and dissolve anger and hatred, and helps you work with the subtle energies in you that lead to these states. The little jealousies and intolerances, the judgements, they can’t survive in the radiant glare of kindly awareness. Continue reading Guided Metta Meditation – Limitless Blessings

Shall We Evolve? A Footnote

These corporations who seem so powerful are not mythic monsters, they are merely conditioned arisings. Phenomena that come to be and must by their birth and growth decay and die.

All things are like this, they are impermanent, they lack any solidity. If one by one we stop believing that getting things is the key to happiness. If we stop buying from them, then corporations will turn to dust before our eyes.

Even if they have governments and nations in their pockets, even if they own the police and the armies, their reign is but a flash of lightning in the night sky. Storms pass and dawns come.

They are not evil, they simply exist due to greed and cause further greed. Once our vision is wider than little greed, the conditions that create them will simply no longer be there.

In Buddhism greed, hatred and delusion are the demons. Only by wisdom and compassion can these demons be turned. Their time has passed. Now is the time for liberation. Now is the time to remember what is beautiful.

Even greed is conditioned, even hate, even selfishness, even foolishness. They too, can be turned to ash by the fires of transformation. One day this time of war and greed and destruction will be but a memory used to teach and inspire children, so that it may never return.

So embrace change, for change is what will cause a better world. Your change.

Everything that lives is holy

Shall We Evolve?

It would not be a completely unreasonable assertion to say that people today are the fruit of the endless and beginningless conditions of evolution. Although many are open or even fully believe in more advanced species occurring elsewhere in the cosmos, we are at least the most advanced species most of us have actually seen.

If we are an advanced species, then it is clear that we are not advanced enough. If we were, we would immediately cease all acts of hatred, greed, and selfishness, and behave as though we respect our habitat. We are behaving like angry children, creating mess and throwing tantrums around the world. It is very simple, if we don’t make a serious effort to grow up then the choice will be removed. There will be no habitat.

Fortunately, change is inevitable, and we are able to change and grow for the good. We can simply decide to evolve. Continue reading Shall We Evolve?

The Sutra of Golden Light

I knew that this sutra was for me when I first came across the title of it. If you have read my early posts about sunshine, and the connection I make between the highest spiritual experiences, and infinite light and infinite love, then you will understand what it is I call sunshine. This blog could almost be called the Way of the Golden Light.

I believe there is a realm, a plane, beyond that which is seen or sensed, a kind of field, which is just like sunshine without any limit or edge. It is the space from which it all emerges and to which it all returns, it is the illimitable, the absolute, the tao, the great spirit, the godhead and the buddhafield.

This boundless light is known by many names, and is accessible in meditation. There are traditions which centre around unity with this light, and contact with it.  Continue reading The Sutra of Golden Light

On Writing, On Getting Things Done

I want to share some wisdom I have gleaned from several books on the subject of achievement, on getting things done, and making progress towards your goals. The principles can be applied to any fields of life, from spiritual development to material success.

The first thing I want to say is that it is wonderful that you are even considering a project, a venture, a creative endeavour or planning to make changes to increase your quality of life.

Everyone who has ever achieved anything worthwhile, like inner peace, fitness, happiness, material achievement or mastery, have all had to sit where you are now, they have all had to start. From the author to the entrepreneur, from the person who lost weight to the person who learned to paint, they have all had to to find the motivation to start and stick to it, to carry on achieving little step after little step even when assaulted by the vilest self-doubt or depressions.
