Facebook and the Bodhisattva – Mirrors and Memes, Ego and Envy, Facades and Fearlessness

I come up against all my various responses to humanity when I look at Facebook. It is an obsession for so many people, an addiction, a window through which we relate to the world and assess our lives. What is it we are doing and why?

I see friends who are obviously successful in the material sense, a plethora of exotic locations and smiles. I see a wife who I might covet if I allowed myself to get sucked in and look at all the photos chosen to show off her beauty. I see children everywhere, abundance, successes, reminders of my own choices, my own battles. I see those who would share every thought, every detail of their lives, and the cries of the needy and the lonely. Meditation as Evolution – Karma and Honesty, Harnessing Wild Horses and Riding them Home

The next stage of evolution is spiritual transformation, and whats new is that we can choose whether we participate, whether we will survive.

Humanity has evolved so far, we have thumbs and buttons to press with those thumbs. The trouble is that these buttons can wreak havoc or work wonders, and by looking at the world we can see that there is happening a little of both.

So essentially we are looking at a choice. Which buttons do we press, or with what mental state or emotion do we press them? Continue reading Meditation as Evolution – Karma and Honesty, Harnessing Wild Horses and Riding them Home

A Letter to the Suffering

Right now, life may seem terribly gloomy, sometimes it does. If there is darkness then embrace it, go into it for you cannot run from it. Sometimes our suffering is like a rite of passage we must pass through on our journey. It can burn gently or wildly, but it is the most powerful catalyst for personal growth that there is.

There may be something you must face, a lesson to learn. Many people go through their whole lives running, avoiding seeing this truth, this groundlessness, whichever aspect of groundlessness that so terrifies.

Sometimes there is anger, resentment over harms done or hearts broken, sometimes there is guilt over harms done or hearts broken. Sometimes there is fear and anxiety about the present, the future. Sometimes there is sickness, old age and death. Sometimes there is change. Continue reading A Letter to the Suffering

Regret – Times Gone, Loss, Change and Letting Go into the New

In meditation recently and out, I have been noticing some regret, a colouring of my experience through looking back. Comparing where I am at to where I was, the opportunities I had, and failed to grasp.Regret that I let things slide, that I put on weight, or had that relapse. Regretting change. So Blessed – All Here, Vajrasattva, Steps, and Purification

Cleansing the Doors of Perception

Cleansing the doors of perception everything would be seen as it is, infinite

William Blake

Just looking. Seeing things as they are. Just hearing, just smelling, just looking. This is mindfulness, and in this sense mindfulness can be a warm awareness that encompasses all, our whole experience inner and outer. The breathing meditation is to cultivate this deep awareness of everything we do. Continue reading Cleansing the Doors of Perception

Metta from the Sun – Moving Beyond

The wisdom teachings,  or the literature of the prajna-paramita (perfection of wisdom) make it clear that in ultimate reality there is no separation of beings. Is is as if all “beings” are emanations of the same field of light.

Indeed the teachings on interconnectedness speak of beings as being like beams of light all interconnecting. In this sense, again the sunshine metaphor is perfect, as something like sunshine is the essence and field from which we all emanate. So this sunshine is the buddhafield, the tao from which all arises and to which all returns. Continue reading Metta from the Sun – Moving Beyond
